ABOUT THE TRUSTEES
Richard Fowler, Q.C.
With over 25 years in practice as a criminal lawyer, Richard represents clients at all levels of Court in British Columbia and in the Yukon. He has extensive experience in both jury and non-jury trials of allegations such as murder, manslaughter, sexual offences, kidnapping, extortion, drug offences, fraud, dangerous offender hearings, and serious driving offences.
Richard serves on the Board of Governors of the Trial Lawyer’s Association of British Columbia, is a Director of the Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and serves as Treasurer of the Western Front Foundation, He has also served as a Director of the BC Association of Legal Aid Lawyers. In 2016 Richard appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committees on Justice and Human Rights regarding access to Legal Aid and Medical Assistance in Dying.

Carol Baird Ellan
Carol is a retired Provincial Court Judge who now works as a family law mediator and adjudicator of police complaints. After starting practice in corporate commercial and tax law Carol spent 10 years as a provincial prosecutor and 19 years as a judge of the BC Provincial Court, serving as its first female Chief Judge from 2000 to 2005.
Carol retired from the bench in 2012, and now provides affordable dispute resolution services to families, primarily in her home community, the BC Sunshine Coast. She is currently the Chair of the Mediate BC Discipline Committee, and she also presides on BC Police Act discipline matters.
